Innovation through partnership: Treston and Etra combine their expertise - industrial cabinet made of SSAB Zero™ steel

20.8.2025
Two strong Finnish companies, Treston and Etra, joined forces to develop a more responsible industrial cabinet for the market. The Treston Zero cabinet is a durable, modular storage solution made of SSAB Zero™ steel — a recycled material with extremely low carbon emissions.

The collaboration is a demonstration of both companies’ capabilities in innovation and sustainability, and a great example of what can be achieved when two agile players combine their strengths.

From idea to execution – perfect timing and a shared vision

Treston had already been looking into the possibilities of using SSAB Zero™ steel when Etra’s Product Manager, Juha Parikka, came across the material through a LinkedIn post. It immediately raised his interest, as Etra’s customers are increasingly asking for more sustainable products.

“Our customers, especially in the forest industry as well as large international industrial companies, are more and more often looking for more responsible products,” Juha explains. “Adding such solutions to our selection also supports Etra’s own sustainability targets.”

Etra’s internal goals and readiness to try new things made it an ideal partner for turning this innovation into reality.

Fast innovation thanks to Treston’s own manufacturing

Treston’s Sales Director, Pasi Vehmanen, describes the project’s progress as rapid:

“The first discussions were held in December, we confirmed the availability and suitability of the material in February, and by May we already had cabinets ready for delivery from our factory. That’s why this has been one of the fastest innovation projects we’ve carried out. Having our own manufacturing enables us to react quickly and flexibly to new customer needs.”

Treston’s own manufacturing brings agility to innovation — turning ideas into reality without compromising on quality or delivery reliability.

A more responsible choice with familiar features

The Treston Zero cabinet is designed for industrial use, combining a more responsible material choice with Treston’s well-known quality and modularity.

Key features:

  • Sturdy powder-coated grey steel frame
  • Four height-adjustable shelves, load capacity 150 kg/shelf
  • Total load capacity 600 kg
  • Shelf adjustment in 28 mm increments
  • Locking handle with two keys
  • Adjustable feet
  • Can be moved by forklift when empty

The biggest difference compared to Treston’s standard industrial cabinets is the material: the frame is made of SSAB Zero™ steel, produced from recycled steel using fossil-free electricity and biogas. The fossil-based emissions from the steel production are less than 0.05 kg CO₂e per kilogram of steel (Scope 1 and 2, GHG Protocol).

Interested in more responsible solutions?

The availability of SSAB Zero™ steel is currently limited, which means careful advance planning is required. Treston evaluates each project individually, considering both material availability and suitability.
